On Saturday, 5 September, at 14:00, we invite you to the Smolyan Planetarium for the opening of the exhibition “Eclipses in August 2026”.

Exhibition highlights

The exhibition will feature striking photographs taken by Planetarium staff, students from the astronomy club, and researchers from the Institute of Astronomy at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Visitors will be able to see footage from the two remarkable celestial events of August 2026: the total solar eclipse on 12 August and the partial lunar eclipse on 28 August.

Anniversary programme

The event is part of the programme marking the 51st anniversary of the opening of the Smolyan Planetarium on 6 September 1975. Throughout the working day, weather permitting, all visitors will have the opportunity for free solar observations through a telescope.

We look forward to celebrating the Planetarium’s anniversary together and recalling some of the most impressive celestial phenomena of 2026.
